It looks advanced, but the free VN app has everything you need built in. This guide shows you how to make it from scratch, synced to your song.
What you need
- The free VN Video Editor app.
- A clip with movement: a dance step, a hair flip, a bike pass or a turn. Clips shot at 60fps give the smoothest slow motion.
- A song with a strong drop or beat.
How to make the velocity edit in VN
- Add your clip and your music to a new 9:16 project.
- Play the song and mark the main beats on the music track.
- Select the clip and open Speed, then choose the Curve option (speed ramp).
- Shape the curve so the speed is high before the beat, drops low exactly on the beat, and goes high again after it. Line the low points up with your beat markers.
- Turn on smooth / frame blending if your version of VN offers it, for cleaner slow motion.
- Add a light zoom-in on each beat and a short flash or shake transition for extra punch.
- Export in 1080p and post with the same song.
Pro tips
- Put the slow part on the most interesting moment of the move (the jump, the turn, the flip).
- Keep it short: 6–12 seconds with 2–3 slow drops is enough.
- If the slow motion stutters, shoot at 60fps next time or use a lower slow-down.

Why does my slow motion look choppy?
Normal 30fps video doesn’t have enough frames. Shoot at 60fps, or don’t slow down below about 0.5x.
Can I copy someone’s velocity preset?
If a creator shares their VN project code, you can import it, but making your own curve takes only a few minutes and fits your exact song.
