Which size to pick
4:5 is the one to use for almost every feed post. It is the tallest shape Instagram allows in the feed, so it takes the most screen on a phone and gets looked at for longer. 1:1 square is worth using when the photo has empty space on the sides, or when it is going into a grid that should look tidy. 9:16 is for stories and for reel covers. 16:9 is the odd one out here — use it only when the image is headed for YouTube or a website header, not for Instagram.
